Behind the Musical Advent Doors: Bridget Cunningham - Harpsichordist and Conductor

Photo: Victoria Cadisch

Bridget Cunningham is a conductor and harpsichordist and Artistic Director of London Early Opera - a fabulous team of professional baroque musicians, singers, engineers and musicologists who are working on a series of new Handel recordings with Signum Records.

Her professional experience turned out highly relevant when it came to recording for our Musical Advent Calendar, (hint hint!) " I am thrilled to be performing with a wonderful group of musicians and singers for this Musical Advent Calendar. For the first time ever, I had to make a virtual tuning session with chords for string players, and scales to tune to the correct pitch and intervals matching our baroque temperament...great fun!"

"Music to me is a connection, it is beauty and majesty, it lifts the spirits, lights up a room and is a saving grace and comfort - transporting us together to glimpse a better place.

For Bridget the year has shown music and family to be a real tonic to the challenges we've faced. "My 2 young boys have been my true superheroes during the pandemic and they love music and Christmas, perhaps Christmas more so... and can’t wait until the big day arrives."

"Music to me is a connection, it is beauty and majesty, it lifts the spirits, lights up a room and is a saving grace and comfort - transporting us together to glimpse a better place. It has certainly helped me and many fellow musicians get through this year."
